North Stradbroke Island

Location : 30kms South East of Brisbane Population : 2435 The biggest island on Moreton Bay, containing a freshwater lake system.

Info

Took a 45 minute Friday ferry across to North Stradbroke Island, for the weekend and camped at Point Lookout - that gives views across the ocean and across the calmer Moreton Bay. It was quite a varied weather weekend, but we were still able to explore the major settlements of Dunwich, Amity Point and the Stradbroke Hotel! (Local entertainment venue and watering hole!) Much of the island is sand, so only accessible by 4WD - not even our mean machine Bertie was up to that challenge. We were able to explore brown lake though (one of the inland freshwater lakes) and got across to the ocean-side Easterly coast of the island, where a local showed us how to catch bait! This done, we also spent 2 evenings beach fishing off Amity Point. Nothing substantial caught - but true therapy!
