Spent a quiet one here, enjoying the rewards of camp life....a BBQ! Actually
checked our the Harbour the next day and found them landing the catch of the
morning! We were so impressed we had to go and buy some wares from the harbour
front fisherman's co-op immediately! On our way out of Coff's, we had to stop at
the 'Big Banana'. Anyone read Bill Bryson's 'Down Under'? There appears to be an
Australian passion with things big (easy...) and the banana was the first on our
journey. It is actually a working plantation and has a number of touristy rides
and attractions to entertain. Very kitch and a bit tired, but we actually learnt
a bit!
Pub Trivia: Banana trees are the only herb that flower - and will only do so
on a full moon. They take 6 months to get from flower to the yellow delight we
all enjoy. If you shop for bananas, don't place them in a hot car - get the a/c
on first, as car interiors give off ethelene gas when warm, which will ripen the
banana (and any other fruit and veg) more quickly!
