Info

Canberra is the home to Australia's Government, placed here as a compromise between the cities of Sydney and Melbourne in the competition to host the capital of the newly-federated Australia. A surprisingly quiet city of wide avenues, green spaces and modern architecture - supposedly a utopian vision of metropolis - but in our opinion a sterile clinical town-planners dream that was completely lacking in any heart or soul. Not helped by the fact it was freezing - but with a maximum summer temp. of 21 degrees, then no wonder! Lots of good attractions though, especially the guided tours of Parliament. Somewhere to pass through.......

Pub Trivia:
More laws are passed in  the Australian Parliament each year than the UK & US put together! They also sit for a 3rd of the time, so reinforcing the no-bull attitude of the Aussies we think!

The Upper House is the ONLY place to see red EXIT signs in the whole of Oz. A special law was passed to allow this to ensure they fitted with the rest of the room's interior!

The Gallery

Mount Ainslie is in the distance from this shot at Parliament steps.

The permanent protestors and their huts.

The good old Ozzie flag on top of the houses of parliament.

...self explanatory I think.
