Buchan Caves
|
 |
| Location : 359 East of Melbourne, on the
Buchan river. |
Population : 400 |
Historic township, now a prominent farming
& timber milling town. Nestled in the foothills of the Victorian Alps. |
Info
Arrived in the town and felt a little uneasy as the general store had a huge
sign informing us "Licensed to sell ammunition"...will we need it?? Buchan
(pronounced Buckin) was the first time we had camped completely alone.....except
for the 100 or so local grey kangaroos! The caves are in a national park, so
once the office was shut, we were deserted! However, this spooky experience was
well worth it to visit the Royal Caves (also Fairy cave) the next morning.

We spotted this on they way to the caves...and it's true we did see Roos and Wombats indulging in such extreme sports! Haven't seen a sign like it since. |

Is that a bloke lying on his back under water....oh no, it's just Speleothems (bet you don't know what that means without looking at the OED!). |

And some more. They all had names but at this point in time I can't remember them all. |
