Airlie Beach was once mudflats until a developers proposal
was declined in Bowen! There is little 'beach' here, but the town sports a
man-made lagoon and strip of cafes and bars - a real backpacker haven. It also
has an expanding marina and offers a multitude of activities focused around the
Whitsunday islands. Timing was again great, as we avoided jellyfish season and
cyclone season!
